We are delighted to introduce open access resources to support practice supervisors and the implementation of the post-qualifying standards (PQS) in adult social care. The new resources feature on the Practice Supervisor Development Programme website, which was developed as part of a national programme commissioned by the Department for Health and Social Care to support practice supervisors in developing their supervision skills.
Learning programme
We have created a learning programme that you can use, comprised of 12 1.5 hour sessions, linking to each of the standards and supervision skills. The programme includes links to tools and filmed resources, providing an ‘off the shelf’ training resource.
The learning programme includes two films from Shabnam Ahmed (‘School of Shabs'), one focused on Values & Ethics and the other on Relationship Based Supervision. The films can be used as individual or group learning activities, exploring the subjects with some reflective activities.
The films can be accessed via the learning programme or the Supervisor Development Programme website, they are numbers seven and eight. The first ten films are supervision scenarios filmed as part of the original set of resources and are useful to reflect on supervision styles and challenges, each is accompanied by a set of reflective questions.
Resources to support implementation
This section includes a pathway for you to use if you are looking at how to implement the PQS, it provides a framework for you to consider the steps you need to take and is editable so you can use it to form your action plan.
Alongside the implementation pathway there are further resources including a Leaders Briefing, to help make the case for supervision, as well as a template for a business case and a framework for evaluating your progress against the PQS.
Mentor toolkit
When a supervisor is completing the PQS for practice supervisors pathway they will have a mentor working with them and supporting them. This short toolkit is aimed at supporting the mentors in this role.
Tools
There are over 40 practical tools to support supervision which are grouped to help you to navigate them. This useful resource also curates the tools around particular areas of organisational development in relation to supervision.
