Since I last wrote about the Supervisor Development Programme for adult social workers the programme and the world have moved on somewhat.
With many regions now having taken part in the training programme packed full of resources, we have now renamed this as the Supervisor Development Programme (previously called the Train the Trainer – Supervisor Development Programme or ttSDP) to better reflect what we are doing to support the implementation of the post-qualifying standards for practice supervisors in adult social care. This Department of Health and Social Care invested programme aims to enable and empower those responsible for delivering and overseeing effective supervision within local authorities.
With the suspension of face-to-face delivery of the programme we have been busy creating content to support supervision in the current coronavirus (COVID-19) context. This includes resources to support virtual supervision, building team’s resilience, supporting ourselves, social work in a crisis and working with grief and loss.
We are really pleased to be sharing with you a new Supervisor Development Programme website that hosts all of these resources. The website currently has tools and videos from the face-to-face learning delivery. If you did not get to attend the programme please do view the tools as they are great resource to support supervision. Similarly the films that Shabnam, Martin and Sally from Camden Council made are great to enable us to reflect on our supervision practice – even now when we are developing supervision relationships at a distance.
As we launch the website, we also have our set of resources to support supervision in the context of COVID-19, and these are to support the practicalities of virtual supervision. We felt it was important to get these tools and resources out to you when you need them in the current context.
In terms of additional Supervisor Development Programme for adult social workers resources, we are looking at getting further materials online in the coming months. We hope that with luck and a fair wind there may be some space for the implementation of the Post Qualifying Standards in the autumn, as we move into the recovery phase. We will be in contact with delegates of the Train the Trainer – Supervisor Development Programme to give firm timelines around the availability of those learning resources, and also looking at how we facilitate online discussions to support that learning.
Until then, please do visit the website and view the open access resources that are available.
