Lyn Romeo to step down from role of Chief Social Worker at the end of January 2024

Lyn Romeo, the Chief Social Worker for Adults, has announced that after 10 years in the role, she will step down from the role at the end of January 2024.

Here is a statement from the Adults PSW Chairs:

The Adults PSW Network are very sad to hear the news that Lyn Romeo will be stepping down from her role as Chief Social Worker for Adults.

Lyn has transformed social work with adults over the past ten years - she has championed a return to relationship-based, strengths-based and rights-based social work, moving us away from a care management approach and back to the values and passion of social work practice.

She has been so supportive of Principal Social Workers, managing to visit us all regularly within the teams that we work within, with an incredible energy and enthusiasm - inspiring our teams across the country. She has also championed the PSW Network and its status within adult social care - PSWs are now proud members of ADASS, and through Lyn's leadership have the confidence to show national leadership and strengthen the voice of the social work profession.

Lyn has also worked relentlessly to raise the profile of research-informed practice and supported and encouraged many social workers to become research practitioners, write books and raise the profile of social care within academia.

Most of all Lyn exemplifies kindness and compassionate leadership, she listens hard to people and is always passionate about improving the lives of the people we serve. She has been a great role model for bringing people together - those with lived expertise and across the whole profession to work creatively to continually improve our professional practice.

We will miss her and look forward to working with the next Chief Social Worker in this highly valued role.
