Approved Mental Health Professional Leads Network

The Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Leads Network is a self-organised, peer-led community of interest that provides advice and support to AMHP Leads and AMHP services across England and Wales.

The network serves as a collaborative platform for professionals to address the challenges and complexities associated with mental health practice and leadership under the Mental Health Act 1983.

The AMHP Leads Network works to enhance mental health services and support AMHP leads through:

  • Peer support and collaboration: As a peer-led organisation, the network facilitates mutual support among AMHP Leads and services. It provides a space for sharing best practices, advice, and resources to improve mental health care delivery.
  • Partnership and representation: The network includes representation from local authorities, NHS Trusts, and higher education institutions across England and Wales
  • Advocacy and influence: The network plays an active role in shaping mental health legislation, national guidance, and practice leadership. By engaging with key stakeholders such as the Department of Health and Social Care, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, and Social Work England, the network influences policy and practice at multiple levels.
  • Promoting anti-racist practice: The network is committed to promoting anti-racist practices and leadership within mental health services in order to help address the long-standing racial disparities experienced by individuals and communities in contact with mental health services.
  • Resource sharing: The network maintains a resource page for members and stakeholders, facilitating the dissemination of information and highlighting the network’s work.
