Join an online knowledge exchange session that will discuss how data is gathered about the experiences of children, young people and families who are supported by Children’s Social Care (CSC) and the feasibility of a national survey.

The CSC national framework and dashboard set out the outcomes to which CSC activities are directed. Work on the framework has highlighted that there is limited data on the experiences of children, young people and families who are supported by children’s services in England.

The Department for Education has commissioned a feasibility study to explore how comparable data might be drawn together to build a representative, national picture of children, young people and families’ experiences with CSC in every local authority. Research in Practice, a part of the National Children’s Bureau, is working with Ipsos to draw sector expertise into this study.

In our first knowledge exchange, we heard invaluable feedback from participants on how children’s experiences are understood locally. Explore a brief report on key messages from the first session.

In this session, we will share findings and recommendations from the scoping study to date and seek your views and comments on these. The work to date includes an evidence review and sessions with young people and professionals.

 We would like to hear:

  • Your perspective on the idea of a national survey approach.

  • Any other ideas you have about building a national picture beyond survey methods. With a view to sharing knowledge on optimal methods for gathering the experiences of children and young people across a range of ages and intervention types. Meeting the challenges of ensuring any approaches is meaningful, ethical, proportionate and safe.

You do not need to have attended the first session to attend this second session. More information about the study can be found here.
