Finding Words is a year-long project developed by the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse and Research in Practice, funded by the Ministry of Justice. It tested accurate, respectful and usable vocabulary for talking about child sexual abuse in Urdu and Punjabi.

Join us for an open access webinar that will explore emerging findings, introduce a new practice tool, and share the voices of experience that shaped the project.

The interactive session sits within the wider context of mandatory reporting, and builds on what existing research tells us about disclosure. This includes findings that show that Asian children and young people are consistently under-represented among those whose sexual abuse is reported to services.

When a child's home language has no clear, accurate or neutral way of naming what has happened to them, people can often be left choosing between offensive terms and vague, euphemistic expressions, open to misunderstanding.

The session is designed for practice leaders and professionals working with Urdu and Punjabi-speaking children and families, including those in safeguarding, child protection and interpreting roles, and anyone interested in adapting this approach for other languages.
